My mother taught me to paint when I was very young and for a long time I painted the usual subjects: still lifes, landscapes, people. Then when day I painted our dog, a beautiful Golden Retriever/Samoyed mix named Baby. She was orangey-gold and very fluffy. I discovered how much I loved painting her fur, and capturing her gentle personality. I began a business of painting pet portraits – mostly dogs and cats, but I have even painted a pet bird. I only work on these projects occasionally now, in between writing books.

Here are a few samples of my dog portraits, Woody (a wonderful Rat Terrier), Nora (a Bernese Mountain dog when she was a puppy), and Baby (a fluffy Golden Retriever mix). Also, you can view a video about my printings that was produced by a local public television station. I think I will always love to paint.
